As Taylor Swift’s style has evolved, so have her music videos. From the slinky assassin gear she chose for “Bad Blood” to the Old Hollywood–style pieces worn in “Wildest Dreams,” the vibe of each song has come across in her on-screen wardrobe. For her latest clip, “End Game,” that meant moving into fresh territory and adopting some of fashion’s buzziest labels. With its provocative lyrics and guest spot from Future, the song is a departure of sorts, and in the Joseph Khan–directed mini-film, Swift opts for edge with a fashion-forward wardrobe that takes her to Miami, London, and Tokyo in Vetements, Maison Margiela, and Faith Connexion.
With stylist Joseph Cassell choosing multiple looks for each destination, Swift had several opportunities to let out her inner bad girl. Adopting some of the swagger of classic music video muses, Swift dances on top of a yacht in a bustier top and high-waisted leather trousers, before driving a Lamborghini Centenario through Miami’s streets with Future. Keeping her South Beach selections slinky, she sings in a custom DKNY sequined hoodie and bandeau worn with Louboutin ankle boots, before hitting the beach in a Miu Miu military jacket.
Later, she switches gears to hang with Ed Sheeran in Tokyo and pulls out a menswear fave (JW Anderson’s checked shirt), before playing a little Dance Dance Revolution in Giuseppe Zanotti’s gold-flecked over-the-knee boots. Partying it up in rainbow striped Ashish provides the video with its fashion high point, but by squeezing in several blink-and-you’ll-miss-it sartorial moments, Swift and Cassell keep things interesting throughout. Of course, you don’t have to be a badass to appreciate Balmain minidresses or Margiela jackets, but decked out in runway finery, Swift has plenty of fun playing the part.
