PREVIEW NZ vs ENG: New Zealand called up former Hong Kong representative Mark Chapman on Thursday to strengthen their Twenty20 batting in the wake of last week’s tri-series drubbing by Australia. Chapman and wicketkeeper Tom Siefert were included in the Black Caps’ 13-man squad at the expense of Tom Bruce and Tom Blundell. It comes after the New Zealanders slumped to a seven-wicket loss in their opening tri-series match against Australia in Sydney. Chapman, 23, has played two ODIs and 19 T20s for Hong Kong but is eligible to play for New Zealand through his Kiwi father. He has been in fine form for Auckland in the domestic T20 competition, averaging 34.11 at a strike-rate of 171.50, including 117 off 104 balls against Wellington last Sunday. Siefert, also 23, has averaged 32.30 at 146.81. New Zealand play their tri-series match against England in Wellington on Tuesday, when they will seek to bounce back from three straight losses in the ultra-short form of the game.

Willey out in the deep moves to his left and puts in a dive to stop the ball. Keeps the batsmen to just two. 102/1

11.2 C Jordan to K Williamson, Excellent delivery from Jordan. That’s his skill, has so much accuracy. fires in a yorker on the stumps, Williamson can only dig it back out to him. 100/1

10.5 A Rashid to M Guptill, SIX! BLAM! And that’s gone a long, long, long way into the stands! What a hit from Big Marty Guptill. Another loopy ball full in length, he has no qualms about this as he murders it over mid-wicket to send it sailing over the fence for another biggie. He hits them with so much power, incredible strength. 98/1

10.4 A Rashid to M Guptill, SIX! 13th T20I fifty for Martin Guptill! And what a way to bring it up. Sees the ball pitched right up, has some good amount of air on it, so he gets a little low and slogs across the line. Clears wide long on with ease and that’s a maximum. The 50-run stand is up as well. 92/1

9.4 D Willey to K Williamson, Good running. This ball is mistimed towards mid off, but before the fielder gets to the ball and fires a throw, a couple is taken. 78/1

9.3 D Willey to K Williamson, FOUR! Misfields don’t help England’s cause. Nicely driven by Williamson towards covers, where the fielder lets it through him. Once it clears the man, it has a boundary written all over it. 76/1

8.4 A Rashid to K Williamson, A slight hesitation. This is an attempted wrong ‘un outside off, the ball goes straight on. Williamson wrists it towards short fine leg. Liam Plunkett to bowl the last over of the Powerplay.

4.6 M Wood to K Williamson, Suicidal running! This is full outside off, Williamson looks to play it through the off side. Gets it off the inner half towards the right of the bowler. He looks to get off the mark with a quick run but would have been cursing himself if Mark had hit the mark. Wood gets to his right and misses his shy at the non-striker’s end. Perhaps, he would have been better off returning it to the man standing there. A run completed in the end. 42/1

4.5 M Wood to M Guptill, Guptill guides this to third man and gets to the other end. 41/1

4.5 M Wood to M Guptill, WIDE! Sprayed down the leg side, Martin misses his flick. 40/1

Kane Williamson, the Kiwi skipper, is the next to walk in. His place in this side is questioned by some experts and this is a good time to shut the critics up.

4.4 M Wood to C Munro, OUT! Wicket against the run of play. Wood was targetted and here he responds with a wicket. The three-T20I-ton fellow Colin Munro walks back cheaply yet again. Banged short on leg, Munro moves inside the line and plays the pull shot. Doesn’t get it off the middle of the bat and finds Sam Billings at the fine leg fence to perfection. Elation on Wood’s face. Fairly early strike for the visitors here. 39/1

4.3 M Wood to M Guptill, Fuller in length around off, pushed down the ground past the bowler for a quick run. 39/0

4.2 M Wood to M Guptill, FOUR! Wood seems to be the prime target today. This is hurled on a length around off, Guptill makes room and smashes it over the cover region for a boundary. He moves to 24 off just 14. 38/0

4.1 M Wood to C Munro, Ouch! Short in length, Munro looks to pull it but the ball goes under his bat and hits him on the stomach. Post that it rolls to the off side and a leg bye is stolen. 34/0

3.6 C Jordan to C Munro, Slower delivery around middle and leg, hit aerially to deep backward square leg. The ball landed just short of the man there. A run taken. 33/0

3.5 C Jordan to C Munro, FOUR! Nicely played. Short delivery around leg, Munro moves inside the line and just helps his pull over short fine leg for a boundary. 32/0

3.4 C Jordan to C Munro, Good stop by Jordan. He is an athletic guy and the way he got down quickly in his followthrough to prevent the ball from going away from runs just proves that. This is hurled fuller on the stumps, hit back towards him with full might. He gets low to his right and makes a half-stop. The ball rolls towards the stumps at the other end and no run is possible. 28/0

3.3 C Jordan to C Munro, Well bowled. Back of a length slanting across at 138.6 kph. Munro stands tall and looks to cut but misses due to the extra bounce. 28/0

2.1 D Willey to C Munro, Fuller on the pads, Munro fails to flick it away and collects a leg bye as the ball rolls to the on side. 18/0

1.6 M Wood to M Guptill, FOUR! Clever and effective! Back of a length ball on the stumps, Guptill arches back and just ramps it over the keeper for another boundary. Expensive start from Mark, 13 off it. 17/0

1.5 M Wood to M Guptill, FOUR! Wood goes wide of the crease and angles this in on a fuller length. Guptill has an easy task. Just helps it away through mid-wicket with the angle and collects his first boundary. Beautiful. 13/0

1.3 M Wood to M Guptill, Length ball outside off, Martin looks to push it to the off side but gets an inside edge towards short fine leg. 9/0

1.2 M Wood to C Munro, On the pads, Munro fails to flick it and the ball goes off his pads towards point. Even as there is a stifled appeal put up, Guptill hares to the other end and forces Munro to respond, who does so. The umpire turns down the appeal and a leg bye is signaled. That pitched outside leg. Also, a wild shy was had at the non-striker’s end. 9/0

1.1 M Wood to C Munro, FOUR! Awww! Timing. That’s all the shot has. Wood begins with a full length delivery around off and middle, Munro just times his push down the ground. The ball rolls towards the fence, teases Vince, who chased it from mid off and just trickled away to the fence. James seemed to have held his hamstring as he just rushed to the fence, though he is good to continue. 8/0

Mark Wood to run in from the other end. He too, has a slip in position.

0.6 D Willey to C Munro, This ball is driven through covers for a single to retain strike. Good start for the tourists here. 4/0

0.5 D Willey to C Munro, Swing and a miss! Munro charges down and has a wild hoick only to miss. Luckily for him, the ball also swings a touch and just passes over the off stump. Nobody can quite fathom how it missed the sticks. 3/0

0.4 D Willey to C Munro, Landed on a length around off, Munro stands back and presents a straight blade in defense. 3/0

Simon Doull says that due to some disease on the surface, the pitch has lost its ability to grow the grass. Hence it wears a barren look. He reckons that they will have to purchase new seeds and sow them in order for some green to come up there.

0.3 D Willey to M Guptill, Fuller and angling away, patted through mid off to get to the other end. 3/0

0.2 D Willey to M Guptill, This is hurled outside off on a length, Guptill shoulders arms. 2/0

0.1 D Willey to M Guptill, A little bit of shape in straightaway. Willey lands it on a length around middle and leg, it comes in a touch. Guptill flicks it away through backward square leg for a brace to get going right away. 2/0
