After months of teases and anticipation, Chevrolet finally revealed the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 supercar on Sunday, Nov. 12 in Dubai.
The ZR1’s “LT5” engine comes in the form of a 6.2-liter supercharged one that makes 755 horsepower, 715 pounds of torque. Some key changes to the LT5 engine include Chevy’s new “intercooled” supercharger system that is expected to offer 52 percent more displacement than the previous generation LT4.
Chevy will offer the ZR1 with a seven-speed manual transmission, and for the first-time-ever, an eight-speed paddle shift automatic transmission.
The General Motors automaker touts the Corvette as its “fastest, most powerful” production version of the car ever. Chevy says the top speed of the ZR1 is more than 210 mph in a news release.
This new supercar will also come with the optional high wing, which Chevy says will create an estimated 950 pounds of downforce when in use.
“As the highest-performing Corvette ever, the ZR1’s design supports its capability in every way,” Kirk Bennion, Chevy exterior design manager, said in the release. “The new wings, for example, help generate more downforce without adding drag, enhancing road holding and top speed.”
As for the other aerodynamic packages, Chevy will offer a standard low wing version or the two-way adjustable high wing version. Both of the wing options are tied into the chassis, which is how it is in the Corvette Racing C7.R version, ass well.
While no pricing information is available, Chevrolet says the ZR1 supercar will go on sale in the spring of 2018.
“I’ve never driven a Corvette like this before, and nobody else has either, because there’s never been one like this before,” Mark Reuss, GM’s executive vice president of product development, purchasing and supply chain, said in the release.
“Its unprecedented performance puts all other global supercars on notice that the ZR1 is back.”
Chevrolet will also offer the ZR1 supercar in a Sebring Orange Design package, which will have a Sebring Orange exterior color with orange brake calipers, seat belts, stitching, and more.
