KOLKATA: With the U-17 Fifa World Cup over, the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation is getting ready to step up its efforts to fight the dengue menace that has hit several hundreds in Salt Lake and Rajarhat.

The civic authorities held an emergency meeting on Sunday to chalk out its strategy. “Since the World Cup was on, we could not concentrate on the vector control programme. We are starting afresh to combat the dengue menace from Monday,” said Bidhannagar corporation mayor Sabyasachi Dutta.

Dutta said he would write to the Union urban development minister, chief minister and the chief secretary on Monday about the water that’s getting accumulated at the Metro project site in Dattabad.

The mayor added that a dedicated civic officer would be appointed in each of the six boroughs and they will coordinate with the vector control team. The civic authorities have also recently procured 12 big fogging machines and six new small hand carrying fogging machines.
